Have the right equipment

Set up the door frame

Before building your door, you will first need to install the frame. To do this, you will take measurements of the opening where your door will be placed. This will be done by positioning one of the vertical studs in place. Next, you will mark the cutting line of the first vertical stud with your pencil and square, which you will transfer to the second stud. Now, you will bring the two vertical studs together. The idea here is to create a rabbet. You will then glue and nail these two studs. At the level of the door frame, do not forget the dimension of the horizontal stud. It should be the same as the distance between the vertical studs.

Now gather the glued pieces that you will keep on the workbench. At this point, you need to reinforce your work by nailing it. Once reinforced with these nails, you will place the studs at the opening of your future front door. For a job well done, you will drill holes to fix it every 25 cm. You also need to drill the wall. Then, you will attach the male part of the hinges to one stud. After that, you will screw them in properly while ensuring that everything is perfectly vertical.

All that’s left is to assemble the slats

Starting from the back of your rabbet, you will take the measurements for the wooden door. Here, you are forming your door with tongue-and-groove floorboards. Next, you will place the door panel you just made on two pieces of wood. Additionally, you will place two pieces of wood on this panel before tightening their ends with clamps. The work will be almost finished when you maintain this clamping of the slats with the clamps at a significant opening. Finally, you will adjust the length of the slats to the height of the door by sawing them with your radial saw. If you wish, and to keep your door sturdy, you can attach the wood that will form the Z on your door.
